Decoration Day for Mighty Al-Ansar
(May 22, 99)
Al-Ansar v Al-Burj. (1st v 12th).
"Beirut Municipal Stadium". Sunday 23/05/1999. 4:45pm. 22nd Week.
This will be a unique an exquisite occasion for Al-Ansar, and all people
associated with this prestigious club, to be officially crowned as Lebanon's
League Champions for the 11th time in-a-row.
The fixture is being hailed as just a mere formality between both sides
who have sealed their destiny this season: Al-Ansar winners of the competition,
and Al-Burj already doomed to the second division a week ago.
But it's also a fabulous opportunity for the "Greens" to celebrate this
trophy in style, before army of their faithful followers, regardless of
the immediate impact of the final result.
As for Al-Burj, a club whose players betrayed last week during the game
with Tadamon Tyre, with all the incidents happening on the pitch against
the referee, this encounter might prove a fabulous occasion to demonstrate
their will to wipe out a really unforgivable behavior which some players
have stirred their club to.
The home side are the hot favorites to claim an easily-expected victory
over their opponents of the day, unless Al-Burj can come out with an unlikely
surprise to contradict all the expectations.
The respective fixture between both clubs in the 11th week ended on
a bright note for the ultimate league champs, who raced to a large (3-0)
win, courtesy of three first-half strikes from Peter Prospar (8'), Mohamed
Jawad (24') and Fadi Ayyad (45').
