Al-Ansar Defeat Ahed and Qualify to Semifinals
of Lebanon Pepsi Cup
(April 5, 99)
Al-Ansar had a chance to take their revenge against Ahed who had defeated
them in the League. Although Al-Ansar was dominant and even adamant to
defeat Ahed, a mistake by Kevork on the 33rd minute allowed
Ahed's Ahmad Itani to score the 1st goal of the game making
the score 1-0 for Ahed.
Al-Ansar was in a tight spot and it seemed as if Ahed may pull it off
again and defeat Lebanon's Champion Al-Ansar. For the remaining time of
the game, Al-Ansar was also attacking trying to equalize the score with
Coach Adnan Sharki using all his possible substitutes and strategies trying
to save his team.
No matter what is said about Al-Ansar and their performance dropping,
they're still #1 in tactics and experience. This was shown on the 75th
minute when Malek Hassoun crossed a free kick to Jamal Taha, who passed
the ball to Peter Prospar with the back of his head. The defenders thought
that Taha would try to score and didn't see the Prospar who placed the
ball into the net with a header, scoring Al-Ansar's equalizer and boosting
his teams' morale.
The original time ended 1-1 with a draw and the game was taken into
extra time. On the final minute of extra time, the 120th minute,
Peter Prospar scored a magnificent goal for Al-Ansar after he passed three
defenders and defeated the goalkeeper in a one on one challenge and scored
Al-Ansar's winning goal.
Al-Ansar will play against Safa in the semifinals. |
