| The Al-Ansar Sporting Club began in 1938 where it was
headed by Mr. Mosbah Doughan. Then, in 1948 the first Board of Directors
was appointed headed by Mr. Mustapha El-Shami.
In 1951, the Al-Ansar Club officially applied to the Ministry
of Education and Sports to play football. The license was issued under
number 175 on May 13, 1954 in the Mount Lebanon district.
On November, 20, 1954 Al-Ansar was awarded license number
5462 for boxing and on October 12, 1954 the Club became a member of the
Lebanese Football Association, playing in the second division.
Since its foundation in 1954 at Tarik El Jadideh, the
Al-Ansar Club consists of motivated young players with high ambitions.
The earlier matches were mainly challenge matches in the suburbs of Beirut
or matches between Armenian teams and northern teams at the most.
It was always a dream to change the quarters of the club
from Mount Lebanon to Beirut. The dream came true on November 6, 1965 and
the name of the Club became Al-Ansar Sporting Club of Beirut under decision
license number 531.
Al-Ansar was promoted from second division to first division
when they beat Homentmen 1-0, winning the second division championship
on December 12, 1967. With this accomplishment, the Club rented a big apartment
at the Center Square of the Municipality of Beirut Football Stadium.
Now being in the first division, the challenge has become
more serious and Al-Ansar now again has to prove that it can reach the
top in the first division. From Al-Ansar was able to reach
second place in the championship. The ride then stopped in 1975 because
of the civil war and all athletic activities came to a halt.
In November 1977, during the mast of the Lebanese civil
war, Mr. Salim Diab volunteered to take full responsibility of the Al-Ansar
Club. A new era began at Al-Ansar with a vision to the future of athleticism
in Lebanon. Under the leadership of Mr. Diab, Al-Ansar's teams never stopped
training in Lebanon if admissible or outside Lebanon when the situation
in Lebanon was not safe. The results of these efforts were shown during
the return of the Club Championship in 1987 when Al-Ansar was able to win
the Club Championship and the Cup Championship for the first time in history.
Al-Ansar is not just football; Al-Ansar is an athletic
institution that believes in education, social welfare, and the good of
the youth of Lebanon
At the moment, Al-Ansar's headquarters are at the same
square but in a new building owned by the Club. The old office is being
used as an infirmary.
Al-Ansar's Former Presidents
Al-Ansar's former presidents include; Mosbah Doughan (1938),
Mustapha El-Shami (1948),
Amin Itani (1949), Riyad Daouk (1950), Fouad Rustom, Abdel
Jallil Sabra, Abdel Waddoud Ramadan, Jamil Darwish, Khaled Kabbani, Samir
Nahas (1977), Said Lawand, and Salim Diab.
The rise to the Championship would not have been possible
without the support of our technical crew and most importantly Coach Adnan
Mikdashi who has been Al-Ansar's coach for over 30 years and has proved
to have no equal in Lebanon or in the Arab world.
Management Structure
The present structure of the management is based on a
Board of Trustees elected by the general assembly. The board of trustees
then elects its president, general secretary, treasurer, and public relations
officers. The board of trustees assigns members of the executive committee
that run the daily operations of the club. The executive committee will
be a sum of sub committees each assigned a responsibility. The general
assembly meets every three years to elect the Board of Trustees.

Track Story
The history of the Club with the training pitches is a
mystery in itself. The teams used to train at Safa, then at Beirut Trees
Park, and then at the Jalloul pitch which was very hard training ground.
Since their move to the new premises, the Al-Ansar Club started training
at the Beirut Municipality Stadium and took good care of the stadium during
all the years of war both in maintenance means and financially, so much
that people thought the stadium was called the Al-Ansar Stadium. Al-Ansar
has asked the Municipality of Beirut to rent the stadium but unfortunately,
the request is always denied.
Due to the works at the Stadium since 1995, Al-Ansar has
had to train on the Habibi Abou Shahla pitch and at the Beirut Arab University.
It is of great importance to the Al-Ansar Club to have
his own All Sports stadium; therefore, President Salim Diab turned the
dream of Al-Ansar into a true reality by acquiring 40,000 square meters
of land just outside Beirut where drafts for Al-Ansar's new projects are
presently under study. |
